Experimental Design
Description
Biostatistics is a branch of statistics focused on the analysis and interpretation of biological data. It involves the application of statistical methods to address research questions in medicine, public health, biology, and related fields. The primary goal of biostatistics is to draw meaningful conclusions from biological and health-related data. Consequently, research findings must be valid and accurately interpreted. For the findings to be reliable, experimental designs should be error-free and without any confusion. Flawed experimental design will lead to wasting of resources and time.
Purpose
This training highlights the importance of designing experiments correctly and avoiding oversights that can lead to wrong interpretation of results. It exposes participants to factors that must be considered when designing experiments in biostatistics.
Stages of research—conceptualizing the study, planning the study, conducting the study, communicating the results, getting funds, and writing grant applications—and significance of randomization, blinding, replication, and experimental conditions will be discussed, among others. This training will also describe data formatting and discuss important factors to take into consideration when working with a biostatistician at various stages of your study. A biostatistician can provide immense value to your research project. To maximize the value they bring, be sure to involve them in your project from the very beginning and to give them the information they need.

Expected Learning Outcomes
By the end of this training, you will be able to
recall and explain the main stages of research;
recognize the key differences between methodologies;
identify the steps involved in study design and data analysis;
identify appropriate funding sources where applications for funding may be targeted; and
recognize good and bad practices in writing a research paper/proposal.
Target Learners
This training program is designed for individuals or groups of people who work in clinical settings, academia, pharmaceutical industries, Government, corporations, nonprofit organizations, and organizations that work on biological data.
Learning Approach
Programs are delivered through live online interactive sessions with seasoned instructors having vast experiences in academia. Contents are well structured and manageable with self-paced learning activities and exercises. Our approach provides learners opportunities for hands-on practice, asking questions, investigating problems, and applying their knowledge to solve complex scenarios or real-world problems.
